MagIron is developing an integrated U.S. iron platform using existing mineral resources and substantial brownfield infrastructure.
The business combines the Plant 4 iron ore concentrator in Minnesota with the Reynolds Pellet Plant in Indiana, which MagIron acquired in December 2025.
An independent Definitive Feasibility Study completed in January 2026 evaluated the restart of Plant 4 and the Reynolds Pellet Plant to produce DR-grade pellets.
The study contemplated average annual production of approximately 2.6 million tonnes of DR-grade pellets over an approximately 32-year mine life.
Independent pilot work has demonstrated the ability to produce DR-grade concentrate, and subsequent full pot-grate testing completed with the University of Minnesota’s Natural Resources Research Institute produced high-quality DR-grade pellets.
MagIron is also evaluating a downstream merchant pig iron strategy.
A 2026 concept study prepared by Primetals Technologies identified three technically credible pathways to approximately 2 million tonnes per annum of granulated pig iron production.
The strategy could allow MagIron to use the same underlying resource and infrastructure to supply either DR-grade pellets or merchant pig iron depending on customer demand and market conditions.
CoTec views MagIron as a strategic exposure to the redevelopment of domestic U.S. iron and steelmaking supply chains.
